Supermassive Games has teased the next chapter of The Dark Pictures franchise in the recently-launched Directive 8020, which fans of the series will probably recall has been a tradition of the developer since the series’ inception. Think of it similar to how Marvel gives us a hint at what’s to come from the MCU in its movie post-credits sequences; it’s enough to grab your attention, but doesn’t give too much away.
Seen below, the teaser trailer is accessed from the bonus menu and seems to take inspiration from VHS horror-based movies such as The Ring. There’s a bunch of video tapes on display, a VCR, and lots of static before a voiceover describes some spooky goings-on involving stages of…well, something, which ends in ‘communication.’ We’re then treated to a quick flash of various year that may indicate the game — titled The Craven Man in the video — will be sent across multiple eras.
Note that The Craven Man hasn’t been officially announced as the game’s title yet, but whatever it’s called, we know that Supermassive Games isn’t looking to rest The Dark Pictures just yet.
Directive 8020 is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and you can read our full review here.
