The Golden Joysticks Awards 2024 aired today, and we got our first real dose of awards season as 2024 winds down. Unlike other awards shows, the Golden Joysticks are almost entirely voted on by the players.
The ‘almost’ is for the few awards that come from a panel, like the Critic’s Choice, but everything else, including Ultimate Game of the Year, comes from public voting.
And regarding who people voted for, it was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Helldivers 2 with the most wins, with both games picking up 4 awards each, but neither of them claimed the ultimate title.
The Golden Joysticks’ Ultimate Game of the Year for 2024 instead went to Black Myth: Wukong, beating out the aforementioned titles and games like Metaphor: ReFantazio and Silent Hill 2 Remake to take the top spot.
Wukong was only nominated in two categories, GOTY and Best Visual Design, which it also won making its night a clean sweep for developer Game Science.
Astro Bot also picked up an award for Best Audio Design, and the studio Team Asobi took home the Studio of the Year award.
