Naughty Dog’s celebrated action-horror title, The Last of Us, has received a brand new dynamic theme in celebration of ‘Outbreak’ day.

The Last of Us was originally released on PS3 in summer 2013, with a remastered version later turning up for PS4 the following year. The game takes place some 20 years after a mysterious fungal outbreak cripples humanity, with the action focusing on survivors Joel and Ellie as they trek across the U.S. in an attempt to reach a safe haven.
Naughty Dog supported the game with a series of downloadable content packs for the multiplayer aspect, as well as the single-player expansion, Left Behind. A prequel of sorts, the DLC pits players in control of Ellie as she and friend Riley explore an abandoned shopping mall in events prior to the main game.
The Last of Us proved to be a considerable success for Sony and Naughty Dog, with the original release selling over seven million copies to date. The game topped U.S. sales for the month of its release, and also performed well over in the U.K. upon release, topping the charts there for six weeks.
Unsurprisingly, there are already plans in place to adapt The Last of Us into a blockbuster movie, and it has been confirmed that Naughty Dog will have some creative involvement in the project—much to the relief of fans. No cast details have been announced as of yet, but Game of Thrones actress, Maisie Williams, has expressed interest in playing Ellie.
Given the massive success of The Last of Us, chatter on a sequel was always going to be inevitable. Indeed, rumors of a sequel have been doing the rounds for some time now, and Naughty Dog has openly admitted it has been brainstorming ideas for a follow-up.
Earlier this summer, Uncharted voice actor, Nolan North, seemingly confirmed The Last of Us 2 while chatting at an event with fans. In addition, the game also turned up on the LinkedIn profile of an ex-Naughty Dog employee. Despite this, the California-based studio recently confirmed that a sequel is not in development as of yet.
