The Last of Us HBO‘s first episode has got off to a great start, with 4.7 million viewers recorded and giving the network its second biggest debut since Boardwalk Empire back in 2010. For the record, the only show that managed to beat The Last of Us was House of Dragon, which drummed up 9.986 million viewers.
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the producers on The Last of Us HBO, issued the following statement on the good news:
Our focus was simply to make the best possible adaptation of this beloved story for as big an audience as we could. We are overjoyed to see how many fans, both old and new, have welcomed The Last of Us into their homes and their hearts.
The Last of Us HBO has received a strong reception among critics, and you can read our own review of the first episode here. As previously reportedly, the show’s creators are also starting to inject some references to The Last of Us Part 2 into the action, including the thriving community of Jackson.
