The Last Of Us Part 2 Has Entire Story Beats You’ll Miss First Time Through, Says Dev

Naughty Dog has revealed that that The Last of Us Part 2 features a level design that’s far more open that its predecessor, so much so that you will likely miss entire story moments during your first playthrough.

The Last Of Us Part 2 Open Level Design

Speaking during the latest behind-the-scenes video for the highly anticipated sequel, co-director Anthony Newman revealed that there’s ‘full scripted sequences’ that can be missed due to the game’s expanded level design.

In this game we’ve gone so far in making the level design open that there are actually entire story moments, entire combat encounters, full scripted sequences that you may completely miss.

And there are things that we feel like, even though a portion of our player base may never see these things, the fact that when you do encounter them, you feel like you discovered them, it lends them this charm and this magic, ‘I think is unique to games that this happened to me, because of what I did and the place I explored to.’

The Last of Us Par 2 is slated for release on June 19, some four months after it was originally due to roll out in stores in February. The game takes place five years after the events of the first game, and sees players controlling Ellie as she embarks on a brutal mission of revenge.
