The actress who portrays Dina in HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us Season 2 has revealed that co-star Kaitlyn Dever required additional security while filming her part as Abby Anderson in the post-apocalyptic horror show.
Speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Isabel Merced discussed the toxicity that Dever is likely to receive “through proxy of being Abby,” stating that there are “so many strange people who “genuinely hate” the character, which resulted in Dever requiring extra security in the role.

Merced added that her co-star is “such a cool person who just does not get phased by things,” and reckons she’s deserving of an Emmy for her role. “I am so excited for people to see how incredibly well Bella [Ramsey, who plays Ellie] and Kaitlyn did on this,” she commented. I’m so excited.”
If you’re wondering why the character of Abby is such a target for hate from so-called ‘fans,’ the video game incarnation in The Last of Us: Part II received a lot of criticism from players to the point that some people issued death threats to her model, Jocelyn Mettler. Likewise, Laura Bailey, the voice talent behind Abby, revealed that she also received a lot of hate from gamers for her part.
The Last Of Us Season 2 will air on HBO in early 2025.
