The Last Of Us Season 3 Is Planned For 2027, No Decision Made Yet On How Many Seasons Are Left

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO Of HBO and Max, has revealed during an interview with Variety that The Last of Us Season 3 is targeting a 2027 release, although right now it hasn’t been decided how many seasons the show has left in it.

Variety quizzed Bloys on a few things, notably whether the third season of The Last of Us would make it out for the 2026-2027 TV season, and if there are any challenges faced with Season 3 now that Pedro Pascal is out and the extent of Bella Ramsey’s role remains unknown.

The series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn’t been decided yet, and I’m following Craig’s lead on that. Not from a marketing perspective, because I think the title is obviously helped by the video game, and now the first two seasons is pretty well established. I kind of appreciate shows that take things and do a show from a different point of view.

While it has yet to be determined how many seasons we’ll see for HBO’s The Last of Us, showrunner Craig Mazin previously commented that he feels it will require four season to tell the whole story.

The Last of Us Season 3 is expected to focus on the character of Abby Anderson, played by Kaitlyn Dever. This mirrors The Last of Us Part 2, where players would take over the role of Abby after playing as Ellie for an extended period. Meanwhile, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann revealed last week that he is stepping away from his creative role on The Last of Us HBO to focus on upcoming video game projects with the Sony-owned studio.
