Use cover wisely
Cover spots are conveniently located in most areas where you’re about to embark in a fire-fight. Use them or you’ll get your head blown off, but be careful not to park yourself behind destructible cover otherwise the enemy will simply smash through it with their heavy arsenal.
You can stick to cover by pressing ‘X’ and then bob up and down to take pot-shots. Do not tap ‘X’ when you leave cover, instead use the Left Stick to slowly move away. This puts you into a ‘Soft cover’ position where you’ll still stay low and can creep to the next piece of cover. Only tap X again when it’s safe to stand up. You can fire from the hip while crouched, which comes in very handy.
Use your special power
Blacksight mode can shift the balance of a fight in your favour by making the action slow down, giving you ample time to move your reticule across the screen and take out multiple enemies. Keep an eye on your Blacksight and use it when it’s full. BUT, only use it when you REALLY need it, at times when there are multiple enemies on screen. In The Order: 1886, there are many instances where you’ll be heavily outnumbered. This is when you should use Blacksight mode. Replenish the metre by killing enemies.
Get to safety before you die
If you get hit, you’ll fall to the floor, but you have precious seconds to move out of the firing line and replenish your health. As much as possible, try and stick to cover spots during shoot-outs and if you go down, shuffle back behind the cover to a safe place. Tap ‘X’ repeatedly to drink Blackwater and you’ll slowly get back to your feet.
Scavenge for ammo
Ammo can soon get eaten up, so never leave an area without scouring it completely for extra ammo. And, do try out the other weapons that are dropped by enemies. While some weapons fire short distances others will give you more power and more distance when shooting enemies from afar. It could be a matter of life or death by experimenting with the range of weapons on offer.
Focus when QTEs attack
The Order: 1886 is packed with QTE sequences where you have to react quickly to survive. These instances can happen at any given moment, so it pays to be vigilant. Any time you’re up close and personal to an enemy, a QTE may kick in. It’s also a lot of fun executing takedowns. If there aren’t too many enemies about, run up to one and press triangle. These impressive takedowns are context sensitive, can be very entertaining and can help you quickly dispatch an enemy that is hiding behind cover.
