A new report from website Axios claims that sources close to the development of The Quarry revealed the project actually started as a Stadia initiative, and Supermassive Games pivoted to 2K under Take-Two Interactive as its publisher once it was clear Google had no more interest in building out Stadia’s platform.
When asked about Google’s involvement in The Quarry, a Take-Two representative said that Supermassive “was looking for a publishing partner as the project came to completion.”
From Google’s original Stadia announcement, many were quick to point to the corporations history for dumping money into a project only to forget about it soon after, for whatever reason.
So that’s why it didn’t come as much of a shock when Google announced that it would be closing its studios, and has seemingly closed the door on making the platform any bigger than it is.
