The Sinking City launch trailer has been released today by Bigben Interactive and Frogwares for your consumption, just a few days ahead of the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired game’s release on June 27. The title will be available for PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
The Sinking City Launch Trailer Is Live
Set in Oakmont, Massachusetts during the 1920s, The Sinking City sees players controlling private detective Charles W. Reed, who is tasked with exploring the city, which has become infested with hideous creatures and hit by unprecedented flooding. A mystery game at heart, The Sinking City takes heavy inspiration from horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, and involves a number of brain-teasing quests and secrets to tackle.
You’ll also be battling against the many monstrosities that inhabit the city, although much like GameCube classic Eternal Darkness, simply clocking eyes on the various creatures will have a negative effect on your sanity. Ammo is precious, though, so you’ll need to be careful about how many scraps you decide to get into during the game.
The Sinking City isn’t the only game set in the world of H.P. Lovecraft to see a release on PS4. Last year, Cyanide released Call of Cthulhu, which is based on Lovecraft’s novel of the same name as well as the 1981 role-playing game.
One of the main features you’ll be using is your investigative powers, which consumes sanity as a resource. However, these powers are instrumental in reconstructing crime scenes and identifying clues. Sanity can be replenished on its own, but taking antipsychotic drugs can speed up the process.
Oakmont itself is comprised of seven districts — Advent, Coverside, Grimhaven Bay, Oldgrove, Reed Heights, Salvation Harbor, and The Shells — although flooding means that you won’t be able to access all areas by foot, so you’ll need to travel by boat.
