CD Projekt RED has said that it is not ruling out developing a fourth entry in its critically acclaimed The Witcher franchise.
Speaking during the company’s latest management meeting overnight (via GameSpot), an executive stressed that the series was conceived as a trilogy, but that doesn’t necessarily mean The Witcher 4 release may not happen.
“The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy cannot have a fourth part, can it?" he said during a Q&A session. "We like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money. So, we’ll think about [making a fourth Witcher game]."
In the meantime, it looks like the developer has full focus on the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the latest entry in the series, and was released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in early 2015. The game was supported by a number of expansions packs, such as Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and shipped over 10 million copies worldwide. Publisher Bandai Namco Games later bundled the game with its accompanying DLC as part of The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition.
CD Projekt RED continued its success with The Witcher 3 at the 2015 Golden Joystick Awards, where it scooped up no less than five gongs including Ultimate Game of the Year. Read our The Witcher 3 review to find out what we made of the fantasy-RPG.
Let’s hope we hear more news about The Witcher 4 release shortly.
