The producer behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has revealed that there won’t be a mini-game for players to rely on while exploring the world, as the developer wants to preserve the game’s sense of discovery.
Speaking with Eurogamer during the Game Developers Conference recently , Francois Meurisse, who also serves as COO of Sandfall Interactive, revealed that the studio is going to add a compass to the world map in time for release.
There won’t be mini maps in the levels. When there’s a mini map, you can end up relying on it. And we want players to discover the world as the expedition does it. They don’t have a map because every previous expedition failed. So yes, sometimes it can be difficult to find their way. What we added on the world map that wasn’t in the preview demo is just a compass, so you can find north easily and get your direction more easily.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is slated for release on April 25, 2025.
