THQ announces Darksiders II, due out in 2012

THQ’s pulled the curtain back on Darksiders II, the sequel to its over-the-top action/adventure romp originally released back in January 2010.

The sequel is centralized around a different protagonist this time around. While the last game followed the trials and tribulations of the horseman War, Darksiders II will follow his brother Death, of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The main storyline is said to run intertwined with the events of the first game.

Death will travel through the Abyss and attempt to restore humanity after his brother War was held responsible for the coming of the Apocalypse in the first game.

Fans of the series can expect a “dramatically larger” game world, also featuring “full weapon and armor upgrade systems as well as bigger and more challenging dungeons and a vast array of new enemies and bosses.”

GameInformer is running a cover story on Darksiders II, including a 10-page spread of the game, with illustrations by Joe Madureira, creative director and illustrator for the original.

Darksiders II is due out in 2012 for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 platforms.
