Paul Douglas, the co-creator of Tomb Raider, has added his two pence on the recently-announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which are arriving in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Speaking on BlueSky, Douglas was quick to praise the ‘stunning’ visuals showcased in both titles, which have reached a level of fidelity that they could only dream of back when the franchise started. He also thinks it’s about time we saw “another 90%+ TR after all this time.”
There needs to be another 90%+ TR after all this time. I’m quite looking forward to seeing both new games now. Visually they are stunning, something we only dreamed of 30 years ago. We will have to wait and see if the gameplay and resulting feelings of exploration and adventure are as good.
Douglas served as the programmer for the original Tomb Raider game released in 1996, working alongside Lara Croft co-creator Toby Gard at Core Design. Tomb Raider was originally released for Sega Saturn in October 1996 before arriving on PC and PlayStation in November, and was recently remastered as part of the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft for modern platforms lats year.
