Tomb Raider dev wishes more time was spent on Underworld

Former Crystal Dynamics employee Eric Lindstorm has expressed regret that the developer failed to spend more to polishing Tomb Raider: Underworld, after sales of the game fell short of expectations.

Lindstorm, who was one of 30 staff at Crystal Dynamics recently laid off due to the underperformance of several ‘triple-A’ titles at retail, said on the Official Tomb Raider forums:

“I absolutely wish we could have spent more time polishing Underworld,” he said, adding, “I take my share of responsibility of aiming so high that we had a reduced ability to spend time on polish.”

In related news, publisher Eidos said earlier this morning that the long running franchise will likely endure a complete reboot for the next instalment, looking to Batman’s cinematic overhaul with The Dark Knight as an example.

“We need to look at everything, as we develop the next game,” said CFO, Robert Brent.

“Look at how Batman changed successfully, from the rather sad character of the Michael Keaton era to the noir style of The Dark Knight.”
