Crystal Dynamics has revealed that the upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis takes place in the same universe as the Survivor trilogy, only we’re now seeing Lara in her prime.
“The events of the Survivor series did occur, this is the same Lara but we are finding her at this point of her career,” commented Jeff Adams, Experience Director on Legacy of Atlantis.
The Survivor trilogy was released between 2013 – 2018 and comprised of Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. All three games chronicle a younger, more inexperienced Lara Croft during the early stages of her archaeologist career, in events that would shape her into the confident, globetrotting heroine we know from the original games.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled for release on February 12, 2027 and celebrates 30 years of the franchise. The original Tomb Raider launched for Sega Saturn in October 1996 and was followed by PC and PlayStation versions soon after, and sees Lara hunting for the pieces of the Scion, mythical artefacts that are believed to be linked to the lost continent of Atlantis.
