The Game Awards 2025 has played host to the official reveal of the next chapter in the Tomb Raider franchise, which is going to take the form of a reimagining of the 1996 classic by the name of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Check out the trailer below.
The Tomb Raider franchise marks its 30th anniversary in 1996, having originally launched for the Sega Saturn before rolling out for PC and PlayStation. However, for years the series would remain synonymous with Sony’s hardware, as Core released sequels Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III exclusively for PlayStation as far as home consoles were concerned. Starting with Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation however, Lara’s adventuring slowly transitioned to multiple formats beginning with Dreamcast, and eventually came to other systems as the series evolved.
Tomb Raider has been rebooted twice already; once with the Legend timeline, which included a remake of the original Tomb Raider, and again in 2013 with the self-titled adventure that focussed on a younger Lara Croft as she was forced to survive on a hostile island and develop her skills as a combatant.
Aspyr Media has released two remastered collections of the classic titles, first with 2024’s Tomb Raider I-III Starring Lara Croft and then this year’s follow-up, Tomb Raider IV – VI.
