Treyarch would be up for making a modern CoD game

Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar has revealed that the developer wouldn’t mind a shot at cobbling together a modern day entry in the Call of Duty franchise.

The firm has become synonymous with making the CoD games which are set predominantly in the past, while Infinity Ward handles the more contemporary efforts.

However, speaking to Machinima, Vonderhaar said that the company would be up for attempting to create a CoD set in the near future.

"I think the answer is ‘yes’,"  he commented.

"It would be kind of a unique opportunity but the way this works out is obviously more complicated than, ‘Hey, me and Treyarch are going to make a near-future shooter.’ It doesn’t work out that way in practice.”

"It’s a tough question to answer. We have not announced any new Call of Duty games at this time but to answer his specific question I think, personally, it would be pretty fantastic to do near-future, you know? Not necessarily far-future.”

"For me personally. I’m just talking for myself."

As far as future CoD games go, word on the web suggests that Modern Warfare 3 is currently in the works as a collaborative effort between Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward and Raven Software. Treyarch put out last year’s entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops, having previously worked on 2008’s World at War and 2006’s Call of Duty 3.
