Two new PS3 Slim models on the way

Sony has filed paperwork with the FCC for two new PlayStation 3 Slim models. The new models, CECH-2101A and CECH-2101B, filed by Sand Dollar Enterprise, Sony’s pseudonym company, will likely have the same size hard drives as the current models – 120GB and 250GB. The coding in the current Slim line are CECH-2001A and CECH-2001B, with the letters at the end indicating the different hard drive sizes.

According to the FCC site, a lot of the components are the same – 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR transceivers. All of these features are the same that are in the current Slim models. The different could simply be in the chip manufacturer, but it’s unclear at this time.

We’ve asked Sony for a comment and if they could provide any details. We’ll fill you in if/when we hear back.
