Square Enix has posted a few previews for its upcoming major content patch for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Patch 2.4, “Dreams of Ice,” will introduce new dungeons, storylines, and a couple fights with fan-favorite enemies.
The Main Scenario, chronicling the player character’s continuing adventures to protect Eorzea as the Warrior of Light, will continue in Patch 2.4 and culminate in a showdown with Shiva, Lady of Frost. Like other Primals (Final Fantasy XIV’s analog for the series’ summons), Shiva can be fought in Hard and Extreme difficulty versions, the latter only being unlocked once all other Primals, including 2.3’s Ramuh, have been defeated on Extreme difficulty.
Elsewhere, the scheming octopus Ultros and his friend Typhoon will join the cast of the ongoing Hildibrand storyline, a humorous take on detective work in Eorzea. It’s looking like players will fight Ultros and Typhoon in the Ul’dah Coliseum in a casual trial not unlike the earlier fight with Gilgamesh.
Details about patch content are hot, but we know that three new dungeons are incoming: Snowcloak, which will likely flesh out the story and context behind Shiva’s appearance, and hard-mode versions of the Sunken Temple of Qarn and Sastasha.
Also, the Rogue class and Ninja job–the first new character classes since A Realm Reborn released–will be made available to players.
Finally, the Final Coil of Bahamut will debut as the hardest tier of endgame raiding, finishing the storyline and progression track that first started with the Binding Coil and continued in recent patches with the Second Coil.
