Naughty Dog has admitted that getting its upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive adventure sequel, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, to run at 60fps will prove "really f***ing hard."
Chatting with Game Informer, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley said the company’s priority is to provide the “best experience” possible for gamers, which may not include a silky smooth frame rate.
"[60fps] was really hard on The Last of Us Remastered and that’s a game we had finished and we knew exactly what the end result needs to look like," the pair said. "Here we’re trying to push the boundaries of what this game can look and do realistic cutscenes, and trying to do 60[fps] is really hard."
Does this mean 60fps is still a target for Naughty Dog?
"I don’t know. The objective for us is just to make the best experience and right now we’re trying to push the look. Then we’ll see where we’re at and re-assess. We’re constantly making choices throughout production of what’s going to make the game feel best and look its best."
Naughty Dog previously said that it wouldn’t aim for 60fps if it meant compromising the player’s experience with the game.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be released later this year.
