Uncharted 4 is a ‘technical powerhouse,’ says new report

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a ‘technical powerhouse’ according to the pixel wizards at Digital Foundry.

Speaking in its tech report of the PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure title, the outfit found that the sequel unquestionably raises the bar for current-generation titles in terms of visual and day-one performance.

With the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, we finally have a game that meets and exceeds our most optimistic pre-launch expectations,” the report said.

We’ve seen a number of current-gen consoles games delivering some remarkable visual achievements, but Naughty Dog has truly pushed on to the next level. Simply put, Uncharted 4 is the technical powerhouse we’ve been waiting for.”

It did, however, observe a few slight hiccups, with Uncharted 4’s loading times, Photo Mode and shadow quality fall below expectations. It also failed to match the standards set by the 60fps demo shown off at E3 2014, though this isn’t a surprise given Naughty Dog said some time ago that hitting this mark would prove difficult.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End hits PS4 today. The game catches up with Nathan Drake as he has settled into a regular life with his wife Elena, though it isn’t long before he is thrust back into the world of thieves after his long-lost brother turns up in a spot of bother.

Naughty Dog has come out all guns blazing for its final Uncharted game, introducing large-scale environments to explore and improved AI, melee and stealth mechanics. The multiplayer has also received some new additions in the shape of AI buddies and Mysticals.
