Fresh details on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End have trickled onto the web this afternoon, courtesy of the latest issue of EDGE magazine (via NeoGAF 1/2).
While much of the info has already been divulged in the recent Game Informer piece, there’s a couple of interesting tidbits that we haven’t yet heard.
For starters, developer Naughty Dog is employing the talents of a custom built shader for Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, which has been in the works for the past two years. As a result of this new technology, materials in Uncharted 4 now look a hell of a lot closer to their real-life counterparts.
Furthermore, Uncharted 4’s texture resolution has quadrupled when compared to its predecessor, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Naughty Dog has also said it’s chuffed with how much memory PS4 is packing under the hood, and plans to utilize it to the fullest.
The studio has also started animation systems from scratch, using real body physics that allow for 360 degrees of freedom.
Navigation has also seen something of an overhaul. Whereas before Drake was simply required to jump follow a pre-determined location to grab hold of a rock face or handhold, other factors such as the angle and range of a jump must now be taken into consideration.
As such, Uncharted 4 feels more like a sandbox game (as previously described), with players having to put their thinking caps on more in order to reach their destination.
Uncharted 4 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 4 later this year.
