Universal Studios have announced that they will not be making any HD DVD title announcements at CES 2008. This goes hand in hand with the fact that Paramount/Dreamworks have also decided to not make any announcements as well.
This news becomes huge considering that last year, HD DVD supporting studios felt no problems in being able to announce a slew of upcoming titles for the format they were backing. However, with recent reports of Paramount wavering, though denied from the company, one can only speculate what is really going on behind closed doors. The announcement that Universal is taking this same road of silence is more than deafening. Silence is one thing, no comments are a whole other story.
It seems Warner’s announcement to back Blu-ray exclusively has done nothing but shake the very foundation of the HD DVD encampment. We feel that this has obviously started the ticking clock of death for HD DVD. It’s only a matter of time until you can find HD DVD’s in the bargain bin, if you even want to call it that.
