Unreal Tournament 3 has 3.5GB optional install?

We’re psyched, you’re psyched – Unreal Tournament III is almost upon us. The game, which is based of one of the finest multiplayer experiences of all time, is set to have incredible graphics (touted as "better than Gears" by Epic), more of a campaign than in the past, and a rockin’ online mode that should keep you hooked for months.

With that in mind, you start to look at three to four seconds quite differently. When you experience a load time three seconds shorter 1,000 times, you save yourself almost an hour in front of a loading screen. That time could be used to take a walk, play a sport… or play some more UTIII of course.

Epic knows that, as Mark Rein shared on their forums.

"Yes there is an install option which places a bunch of the commonly used content on your hard drive to speed up loading and texture streaming times a bit. It does not install everything – you still have to put the disc in the drive to run the game. The install is absolutely not essential. The game runs just fine from the Blu-ray and load times aren’t bad but if you’re going to play the game a lot, and you’ve got an extra 3.5GB on your hard drive, then you might as well do the install because the few seconds you save here and there will add up over time."

While that’s a vast amount of space, you’re under no obligation to install the game. Choices are just great, aren’t they?
