[UPDATE]Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has less than 24 hours, Yu Suzuki hopes for ‘another miracle’

Shenmue III has officially set a new record on Kickstarter, becoming the highest funded video game project on the crowdfunding website. The game has just hit $5.55 million, overtaking Bloodstained’s $5.54 million funding campaign.

With 13 hours to go, it’ll be interesting to see if the project manages to hit the $6 million goal that fans are hoping for. We’ll keep you posted.

The director behind Shenmue III has posted a video message on YouTube overnight to fans as the project entered its final 24 hours on Kickstarter.

Shenmue III now has around 15 hours to go and currently stands at $5.5 million, just shy of the $5.6 million it would need to set a new record on the crowdfunding website. $6 million would ensure the title a more detailed battle system, although right now it looks unlikely it’ll hit that mark.

Nonetheless, Yu Suzuki is hoping for ‘another miracle’ as the project enters its final stages. Check out his message below and have a look at the latest trailer here. It recently emerged that Shenmue III may not receive a physical release on PlayStation 4 outside of the Kickstarter rewards for backers.

Shenmue III is due for release on PS4 and PC in December 2017. Check out our feature on what made the original 1999 title so groundbreaking here.
