Sony has announced on its official website that the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive WipEout Omega Collection will be released in summer 2017.
The product page for the hotly anticipated futuristic racing bundle, which was announced during the PlayStation Experience 2016, lists a July 31, 2017 release date, although right now we suspect it’s a placeholder. Nonetheless, it at least gives us an indication of when we can get our hands on the pack.
The WipEout Omega Collection includes classic racers WipEout HD, WipEout HD Fury, and WipEout 2048, all of which benefit from a massive visual overhaul thanks to the power of both PS4 and PS4 Pro. Textures are cleaner, to the point where you can now discern the small text written on the side of the playable ships, while HDR support also fleshes out the graphics beyond your average next-generation overhaul.
Aside from looking noticeably sharper on the PS4, those of you who own PS4 Pro will be able to take advantage of added benefits including 4K HDR support, which improves the game’s resolution and graphical quality on Sony’s high-end console. In fact, the PS4 Pro version of WipEout Omega Collection renders the game in detail that is four times the resolution of the regular PS4 version, resulting in an overall more immersive gameplay experience.
The original WipEout was released in 1995 as a launch title for the PlayStation in the U.S. and Europe, with the series quickly becoming synonymous with Sony’s pioneering games console. Developed by Psygnosis, later SCE Studio Liverpool, the series spawned a number of successful sequels that culminated in the release of the PS Vita title WipEout 2048, the studio’s last effort prior to its closure in August 2012.
