VGA 2012: Dark Souls sequel announced

Jessica Alba swooned fans this evening at the Video Game Awards as she announced the upcoming sequel to Dark Souls.

The trailer opens up with a male warrior climbing down into a cave, only to come across the skeleton of a dragon. The trailer then opens up to a vast landscape overlooking a mountaintop and a dragon flying in the distance as a female mage looks on in worried anticipation. The final sequence puts the warrior and the mage up against a dragon with a third eye on its forehead.

Needless to say, the onslaught that was Dark Souls, sequel to the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls, is now receiving its own officially-title sequel Dark Souls II. The trailer was purely in CG, so no gameplay can hint at if the title will be on current-gen consoles or not. Since the next round of consoles is rumored to arrive next year, this may be a launch title–or one that launches close to launch. This is pure speculation at this point, but we here at PSU will keep you posted as more information on Dark Souls II, and further content from the VGA’s, release.
