VR adventure Wayward Sky in development for Project Morpheus

In development over at Uber Entertainment, Wayward Sky is a VR adventure for Project Morpheus that looks to offer something a little more cerebral alongside its virtual reality thrills.

Referred to as a ‘look and click adventure’, Wayward Sky adopts the well-trodden formula lain down by such great point and click titles as Grim Fandango but adapts it into a first and third-person virtual reality setting.

In Wayward Sky, players step into the sky-boots of Bess, an inexperienced co-pilot who is flying with her father, when their plane crash lands on a mysterious fortress floating in the clouds. With her plane destroyed and her father kidnapped by a nefarious race of robots, Bess sets out to rescue her father, repair their plane and then head home.

With wide open environments in mind, controlling Bess is simple. All players need to do is look in the direction that they want the plucky co-pilot to go and then simply press the corresponding action button on the Dualshock 4 controller to make Bess head in that direction.

Additionally, collecting items and interacting with the environment is handled in much the same way, with the player looking in the direction of where an item or a point of interaction might be and then pressing a button to engage with it.

Where Wayward Sky pulls off an especially neat trick is in how the game deals with perspectives.

Here, players can alternate from the usual first-person view to a third-person view that pulls the camera right out, showing off the entirety of a particular area and then allowing the player to decide the best way to proceed.

Wayward Sky is currently expected to release in 2016, alongside the Project Morpheus hardware itself. Take a look at what’s in store for next year.
