Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer Warhorse Studio has announced that Daniel Vávra, a key figure in the medieval-RPG franchise, has decided to shift away from game development to focus on bringing the series to the big screen.
Speaking with CzechCrunch, Warhorse Studios chief Martin Frývaldský confirmed that a draft for the Kingdom Come movie script has already been penned, and has started negotiations with production studios.
Dan has a new role. That’s the creation of the Kingdom Come movie. I’m sure people will wonder if this is some kind of breakup with Warhorse. No, on the contrary, Dan himself wanted to move on. He made three games that were a global success, and he has been wanting to try something different for a long time. Getting Kingdom Come to the screen or the screen in the next few years is another milestone that we want to achieve, and that is Dan’s new role. You won’t see him in the office every day anymore, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse.
Anyone who has played Kingdom Come or even Mafia will know Dan’s handwriting and can expect a strong story again. We would have to be blind if we didn’t realize how much our brand has grown. In fact, Dan Vávra’s new position could be called transmedia director. In any case, we see the film as a complement to our game creation, which can be extremely successful in its own right.
Kingdom Come Deliverance II was released for the PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2025, and earlier this month it was confirmed to have sold over five million copies worldwide. This also coincided with the release of a native PS5 and Xbox Series S/X version of the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Originally released on February 13, 2018 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, Kingdom Come Deliverance takes place Bohemia in the year 1403, during a major conflict set during the reign of King Wenceslaus IV. The game sees players controlling commoner Henry, who joins the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla after his village is raided by mercenaries, pursuing justice and eventually becomes embroiled in an effort to restore the King to the throne. The medieval-RPG features an open-world and puts a large emphasis on period-accurate content in regards to weapons and architecture.
