Despite arriving with more controversy than any other game in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy outsold everything else last year at every turn, capping the year off with another 2 million copies sold in December 2023 alone.
According to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad, it sold more than 22 million copies in 2023, and that success means there are more games set within the Harry Potter Wizarding World to come.
In a recent interview with Variety, Haddad talked about how “proud” Warner Bros and Avalanche Studio are to have beaten the odds so to speak, and release a game that actually sold more than Call Of Duty or Grand Theft Auto.
Or as Haddad puts it, the game that’s usually the best selling game of the year is “one of these incumbent’s sequel games.”
Haddad also spoke about what’s to come, that on top of Harry Potter Quidditch Champions there are also “a series of other things” yet to be announced.
Speaking on Quidditch Champions, Haddad said “we don’t have any particular announcements on exactly how and when [Harry Potter Quidditch Champions] is going to come to the market, but we are working to get it designed in a way just to delight fans.”
Haddad gives no indication as to what the other projects aside from Quidditch Champions could be, though Hogwarts Legacy is really only one example of the ways in which you could go when making a Potterverse-based game.
Considering the options it’ll be interesting to see if we get games that will push their respective genres, or remain iterative of what sells.
