Was LittleBigPlanet a failure? NPD releases sales numbers

Over the last couple of years, Sony has pushed LittleBigPlanet as the next LittleBigThing. We all were brought into the atmosphere that these little SackBoys created and fell in love with a lead character that even an enemy could care for. From the LittleBigBillboards to all of the preorder goodies and advertisements, LittleBigPlanet was destined to be Sony’s poster child for the PlayStation 3.

Fast forward roughly two months after release and LittleBigPlanet can’t be considered anything other than disappointing. The title, which was supposed to move consoles, has fallen out of the top 20 software titles and has found itself heading towards the bargain bins if sales continue in the direction they are.

Gamasutra.com is exclusively reporting that LittleBigPlanet sold a shallow 141,000 units through the month of November. This brings their total up to a measly 356,000 which is something both Media Molecule and Sony couldn’t have expected considering the reviews and anticipation that was built around this game.

While we love LittleBigPlanet and everything associated with it, it’s hard to consider LBP a commercial success in its current state. We’d love to know how you guys feel about it below.
