Yuke’s, the Japanese development team behind the WWE video game franchise, has said that it’s not involved in any capacity with the series’ next instalment.
Yuke’s Confirms No WWE Involvement This Year
Speaking with VGC, the company revealed that it “does not have plans to be involved in any way in the next WWE title,” bringing the curtains down on its two-decade involvement with the franchise.
Yuke’s joined the series with 1999’s PSOne classic WWE Smackdown, but last year’s WWE 2K20 saw the studio reduced to a supporting role. Visual Concepts instead took over primary development of the game, which took a major battering from critics and consumers alike.
This latest development comes following reports that WWE 2K21 is not happening, with 2K instead opting to release a non-simulation title this year instead.
2K, predictably, is keeping mum on the subject, telling VGC: “We don’t comment on rumours and speculation.”
