Xbox One beats PS4 in April 2015 NPD results

In a surprising turn, Xbox One beat PlayStation 4 in hardware sales last month.

PS4 has seen more units sold in the majority of months since the eighth console generation got its start, but Microsoft looks to be shifting momentum as we move closer to E3. This is a surprising development, as few notable releases or market disruptions occurred in April to have shifted the needle.

Killer sales of Bloodborne, one of PS4’s few killer apps, likely buoyed its March sales for diminishing returns in April.

Cumulative hardware sales still put PS4 in a comfortable lead, with about 20 million units sold to Xbox One’s 12 million. PlayStation also led software sales in April.

Sony was optimistic about current performance, giving us the following statement:

“We would like to thank fans around the world for their continued support of the PS4. According to NPD, PlayStation continues to lead software sales for April 2015 and PS4 remains the cumulative sales leader in the US. We are looking forward to an amazing E3.”

Here’s the top-selling software of the month, with platforms listed by top sales.
