Speaking during an interview with Famitsu magazine (via DualShockers), Yakuza 6 Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed a few new details on the hotly anticipated action-brawler, where he compared the upcoming sequel to a luxury car.
One thing that Yokoyama-san was keen to point out that the Yakuza 6 demo doesn’t have any relationship with the story of the finished product. For example, the characters that you meet and even Kiryu’s clothes are not a representation of what you’ll experience in the final game.
Furthermore, while the growth system and minigames were not included in the playable teaser, this does not mean that they won’t be included in the full version of the game. The demo’s purpose was merely meant to give players a taste of the core gameplay.
Back to the car comparison, Yokoyama-san said that while the distance traveled and the time it takes is the same, Yakuza 6 is like shifting from an economy model to a luxury car; the demo itself is more like a test drive for a luxury vehicle.
Finally, he revealed that the development team is working to capture the “feeling of fighting” for this latest instalment in the venerable gangster-’em-up franchise. Animation in the game is influenced by physics, and the location of impact on the body now depends upon where characters are situated. As such, the same combo of motions is never repeated twice.
Yakuza 6 is scheduled for release exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in Japan in Q3/Q4 2016. A western version has yet to be confirmed.
