Masayoshi Yokoyama, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Director, has revealed the the upcoming Yakuza Kiwami 3 (which is packaged with the Dark Ties spinoff) will feature “major hints” regarding the future direction of the Like A Dragon franchise.
Speaking with GameWach, Yokoyama-san made it clear that Yakuza Kiwami 3 is more than just a simple glow-up of the 2009 action-RPG, which sees Kazuma Kiryu getting to grips with running the Morning Gory Orphanage and becoming caught up in yet another game of fisticuffs with the local Yakuza thugs.
It contains some major hints about the future direction of the series. We haven’t officially announced anything related to that yet. But once you play it, I think you’ll get an idea, or rather, a pretty solid sense of what we intend to do with the series going forward. If you think Yakuza Kiwami 3 is just a remake, you’d be hugely mistaken.

RGG Studio revealed last year that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will feature major additions to the Morning Glory sections of the game with Kiryu able to increase his Daddy Rank by helping out the kids, thus improving his relationship with them as well as engaging in mini-games like cooking and making items such as backpacks.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties launches February 12, 2026 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
