SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced that Yakuza: Like A Dragon has sold 1.8 million copies worldwide.
In terms of sales, the action-RPG moved 400,000 in its native Japan and sold an additional 1.4 million overseas, which is impressive considering at one point the franchise barely made a dent in the US and Europe. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is also a major turning point for the series, as it ditches the arcade brawling for street fights and replaces it with turn-based combat similar to a JRPG.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is seen as a fresh start for the series, introducing a new protagonist in the shape of Ichiban Kasuga. However, the follow-up, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, makes it clear that Kiryu Kazuma is not going anywhere, as he will be teaming up with Ichiban for a brand new adventure.
