Speaking during an interview with Famitsu, Nier masterminded Yoko Taro has revealed that he’s more focussed on improving things in his home life for 2026, as opposed to prioritising a new game.
Taro-san was taking part in a wider interview with 171 developer at the publication, which asked about their plans for the near ahead. In response, Taro said that he moved house in 2024, and still has a lot of attention to give his home life, and therefore “work comes second to that.”
I moved house in 2024, but I still haven’t tidied everything away, so I would like to get that done during this year. Work comes second to that. Well, probably third. I don’t think I’ll be invited back [for an interview with Famitsu] next year, but it’s just how it is. That’s life.

Taro is known for waring a mask during interviews as he isn’t fond of being photographed. Last April, he discussed the topic of AI with Famitsu, stating that he believes AI technology will render all game creators unemployed in 50 years — a grim prediction to say the least.
