Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that sales of the company’s Blu-ray format have recently surpassed the 250,000 mark in European territories.
Meanwhile, sales in North American are nearing the one million mark with the Blu-ray launch of a series of highly anticipated blockbusters such as Spider-Man 3 and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
All of these extraordinary sales are attributed due to a considerably higher rate of purchase than HD-DVD, having outsold the competing high definition format by a ratio of approximately 2:1. With major company and mainstream support aided by Blockbuster's exclusivity, Blu-ray is looking to be the high definition format of choice, despite recent news of Paramount’s decision to drop its support of the technology.

sweet
Blu-Ray 4 Life, way to go, lets finish off HD-DVDead...
Makes you wonder why some studios are still HD-DVD exclusive and some are still jumping on the HD-DVD exclusive wagon. All studios need to stop creating market confusion and just support Blu-Ray already.
I agree with 6toes. HD-DVD keeps limping along despite impending failure. Them sticking around is just confusing the consumers who want to come into the HD field
when hd-dvd say goodbye i think xbox360 well say it 2
great news
Blu-ray for sure. definitely.
To: 6toes,
Do you really have (6) six toes? :o)
Ofcourse blu-ray has my vote (look what site I'm on)....but one must truely wonder whats up with Paramount. Supporting HD-DVD now is like buying a ticket and jumping on the titanic just after it has hit the iceberg. 2:1 is good...but its not a blow-out or landslinde by any means. Seems this war will be dragging on for a good deal of time.
psn id: gingo.... excellent and this all shows what a great choice it was by sony to put a blu ray player into the console
paramount was paid 150 million dollars by hddvd to go to ther side thats funny in a way but we still get some movies like indeana jones 4 and more spelberg work the director of transformers was mad when he heard this news but he was paid to be silent
You know honestly I'd still rather by a DVD rather than an HDDVD. I mean look at the recent release of Heroes, the DVD set is like 40 bucks, HDDVD? 100 bucks. Eff that noise. I have TWO Upconverting DVD players now and I'll put them to good use rather than support that format even if I DID have a useless HDDVD player.
we all knew blu ray will win
And to think all this wouldn't even have happened if Sony didn't include Blu ray as standard in all ps3s.
I just hate that season 1 of Heroes is a HD-DVD exclusive.. :( why can't they see that Blu-ray is the future....
True that.
Woopie Doo! Fabulous Sony - now go deliver the frikken 300 games that Kaz promised by March.
