A spokesperson for Sony has confirmed the electronics manufacturer will not be attending CES 2027, putting an end to a decades-long run for the company.
Speaking in a statement to Bloomberg, the spokesperson stated that Sony is moving towards entertainment, IP, and “technology geared to support creators. We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business.”
Sony has a long history with CES having attended the first event back in 1967, and has always had a strong presence at CES in subsequent years well before PlayStation arrived on the scene. Since getting into the console market, Sony has used CES to showcase various hardware. For example, at CES 2020, the format holder announced the logo for the then-upcoming PS5, while confirming a number of details for the console including ray-tracing, haptic feedback, and more.
In addition, Sony also revealed at the time that PS4 had sold 106 million units worldwide, while the PSVR had also reached a new sales milestone.
