Digital Life America survey results

According to a survey done by Digital Life America, seventy six percent of the twelve hundred people they spoke with had at least one "digital lifestyle product" on their Christmas wish list.

This may seem awful high, but given today's market, these numbers sound about right. Some of the results, however, may surprise you.

The number one item wanted this year is a flat screen HDTV, strongly supporting the view that HD is certainly ready to take over. As for gaming, the Wii takes the most sought after games console for this year, with 9% of the testers' response. Immediately next highest on the survey was the PS3 console, with 7%.

The Xbox 360 just missed the top ten list, coming in 12th.

The survey also tracked the differences in women's lists as opposed to men. When this data was calculated, the PS3 and Xbox 360 appeared on the top ten for men, but not women. Nine percent of the women, however, did wish for a Wii under the tree this year.

Now, given that this survey was only given to ages 18 and up, this certainly does not show the views of a large piece of the gaming audience. It does, however, show the views on the older gamers. Be sure to check back for up to date and accurate sales figures as this holiday season progresses.

Wow that "survey" is so off. The people 18 or older would be the whole gaming market, except for the wii. Everyone 18 and older outside of my house I have every met wants a PS3.

Wait 18 and up NOT the majority of gamers? I'm sorry what universe are we in again? everyone below that age is too busy shaking their asses on Myspace to care about video games. And I'm not suprised the Wii is high on female wishlists since it has nothing too objectional or objectifying due to nintendo's disney like additude towards games it also makes sense that this causes the wii to be higher on the food chain because women generally outnumber men by atleast 5 to 1.

Not really surprising but not really accurate either ie the missing portion of the demographic below 18.

And this survey has been conducted before Sony announces the US price drop and 40gb model. Despite that they could have done another survey of 1200 people 100 miles away and got different results. Still good to see the PS3 is third.

I take public transport and I hear people on the bus talk about the PS3 now that there is a 40gb model for £300

yes, but lets face it..... kids are the ones playing the PS3's hooked up at Tarphet and Worst buy...(srry i don't know the rules about word of mouth advertising..lol)... and kids nagging mom&pop definitly gets sales...... but hey, if theres any proof at all that PS3 is growing up, expanding, and getting sales.... im happy....now those guys at gamestop can quit mocking me for reserving the PS3 version of multiplatform games....
