Ebert: Sony is being bullied & has the best format

"Why does Sony always seem to have the best format, and get bullied?" said the well known film critic Roger Ebert when he took some time to discuss the future of film. Ebert was asked about film in the 21st Century and in his response, he mentioned high definition media and rhetorically asked the above question about the Blu-ray format.

Ebert stated that he is much like any other consumer, and is reluctant to purchase into either format until the war is resolved.

"I'm looking forward to testing HiDef and Blu Ray DVDs, but I'm damned if I'll buy a machine until they settle their war." Ebert states.

Exciting news that a very famous film critic sees the power of Blu-ray, but still disappointing to see that he won't buy a PS3 or Blu-ray player anytime soon!

The term bullied is so correct in terms of this usage. The worst part is that since the majority of companies are on blu ray side, this bullying seems to come from people who just want to see sony fail and have no real reason for doing so. And don't make the mistake of thinking that these types do not have high positions.

I agree with him 100% why would you buy something for it only to fail in the future (not that I think Blue-Ray will fail, I'm almost positive it will win) that is if you dident buy your PS3 for games, and I dought Ebert plays video games.

does anyone else here see that Roger Ebert being too frugal to buy a bluray player is kind of weird...  He's got to have $600 somewhere...

Its really the chicken and the egg, for there to be an end to this war, ppl have to buy one or the other, but if everyone waits for the war to be over before they buy, it may never be over, or the side they "vote" for could lose.

I dunno if I can feel excitment at his declaration until he accepts that videogames are as much art as films are. Til then it's a nice sentimate but he's still not truely in our corner.

truthfully I think even if HD-DVD did win in the movie aspect I really think Blu-Ray is showing how valuable it can be to gaming it offers developers a lot more room to add some polish to next gen titles

Sony asks to get dumped on though. They do a lot of bogus media stuff like place photographs of a 15 year old kids on bogus web sites and pretend they are journalists (when the story is really coming straight out of Sony PR machine). They also make fake blogs and fake posts on various sites. They even recently got caught redhanded editing the Halo 3 details on Wikipedia. Everyone see's through these lame PR efforts which means Sony looses credibility and earns a reputation for being fake.

To top it off Sony shoots themselves with dumb advertising. Look at the PSP ad that promotes pedophilia. A 40 year old man walks into a public toilet and stands at a urinal next to a 16 year old boy - looks down at his crotch and asks the boy can he touch it - What are they doing??? This is sick. They follow up with the dumb racist PSP white thing, decapitate a goat, feature a young girl sitting on a toilet with her pants around her ankles with the caption Sony is cheaper than your girlfreind.....Sony are asking to be dumped on.

I reckon they should sack the whole PR team ASAP, Cleanup the advertising, reduce the Arrogance, the Hype, the dumb school boy tit-for-tat antics and instead start rebuilding credibility. Whilst their new marketing people clean up the image, Sony should be 110% focused on releasing quality games for PS3 that are so good - they sell themselves. I mean fantastic original must-have exclusives. Infact I'd love them to start understating and over delivering for the next 18 months. Get their name back.

From a product point of view, Sony needs to quit with the Spyware Rootkit stuff - it scares people.  I'm scared of Sony to be honest. I just want to play my "Playstation" consoles Ive had the first, and the second and now onto the third generation - I want to just trust that it will work, that Im going to get support if I need it, and Im not going to get spammed with in game advertising, or have my details sold to a telemarketing company or something of that nature. Problem is Sony have been unpredictable -  they make snap decisions without thinking through the impact on their customers - like suddenly cutting backward compatibility - Im really ticked off by that. They do some stupid things. They ask to be dumped on.
