Final Fantasy X is a ‘remaster,’ not a remake says dev

Square Enix has clarified that the upcoming PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita version of Final Fantasy X is in fact a HD remaster, not a full remake.

Chatting at the Taipai Game Show, producer Shinji Hashimoto promised that the game will nonetheless feature a substantial visual overhaul:

“It’s being developed like a remaster, but the visuals will be much more improved compared to the original game,” said Hashimoto.

In case you weren’t aware, Final Fantasy series bigwig Yoshinori Kitase previously remarked that FFX would be a remake, fuelling hope that the game would offer more than just a HD facelift. Square unveiled the project at the Tokyo Game Show last year.

Final Fantasy X originally released on PlayStation 2 back in 2001, garnering critical acclaim and even spawning a sequel. It is widely regarded by fans and critics alike as one of the best games in the franchise to date.
