The latest issue of US publication Game Informer contains exclusive information on Activision’s forthcoming music simulation title, Guitar Hero IV.
According to the magazine, the fourth instalment in the popular series will be introducing more instruments to the fold, including bass guitar, drum kit and microphone, similar to Electronic Arts’ Rock Band.
However, as a result of the recent lawsuit between Activision and Gibson, guitar peripherals will not be made by the latter and will instead be produced entirely by RedOctane.
Furthermore, a new service will be put in place allowing gamers to record their own instrumental rock songs and share them with other users online. The game will also allow you to customize your own band member, album artwork and instruments.
Song titles have yet to be confirmed but it is known the game will include tracks from a variety of popular artists including Van Halen, The Eagles, Sublime, and Linkin Park.
Also detailed is the new Prince of Persia title for PS3 and Xbox 360, of which Ion Zur is confirmed as the music composer. Regular readers may remember that Zur was recently announced as the composer for Fallout 3.
Additionally, the magazine states that combat is now performed in a one-on-one fashion rather than having the player face groups of circling opponents. In terms of controls, one button will be used to control your sword, while another is used for jumping, and another for grabbing objects.
The publication also features a small selection of new screenshots on Capcom’s Resident Evil 5, depicting protagonist Chris Redfield holding the female character seen in the E3 trailer. An image of a chainsaw is also present, along with another unnamed female believed to be Redfield’s younger sister, Claire, who appeared in Resident Evil 2 and Code: Veronica.
Lastly, the magazine speculates that a successor to the PS3 will arrive in 2012, preceded by new consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo in 2010.
Stay tuned.

I hope this wont cost £180 ($360) in the UK. If its cheaper than that, I will be getting this instead of Rockband. EA need to learn to treat us europeans fairly.

Shameless...
But it's Neversoft we're talking about.
Looks like they want part of the Rock Band pie.
Really, if Activision are going the multiple instrument way, they are going to have to make Guitar Hero 5 compatible with Rock Band instruments... It is completely rediculous for EA and Activision to ask us to buy all new peripherals whenever they release a new game.
everything just like Rock Band except only one feature that is record your songs
yeah i will defos buy this instead of rockband! will b great with the user created content!!!
omg so theres only 3 n half years left for the ps3.dont sound too good if thats true
well look at guitar hero going the way of rock band. I wont get this they suck they should have let us use the guitar for rockband. They wont be getting my money
Obviously the rock band peripherals will probably not work for this new guitar hero. I refuse to drop more $ on peripherals because 2 greedy companies can't get their poop together. It makes me sick to my stomach how they just bend consumers over a barrell and give it to em right up the caker. The companies should realize that the $ is made from DLC. If more people played the game it would mean more revenue $'s for the greedy pricks. I love the music simulation games BUT I refuse to invest more money in peripherals. My apt. looks like a f-ing recording studio as is with r.b. drums, strat guitar, g.h. guitar and frontman. and mic with stand. I really hope that activision dosen't make seperate peripherals for g.h.iv. If that's the case I will boycott all this b.s. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
lol @ new consoles in 2010. that's a crock, guys. in order for a 2010 release of a NEW next gen console (better than 360 or ps3) it would have had to be in development since AT THE VERY LATEST 2007, which I highly doubt.
I cannot express how much I want this game, actually.. I NEED it!!(RE5)
Seriously, what the F***. That's bull crap. Activision, you already completely wrecked Guitar Hero 3, this is just annoying now. The Guitar Hero series sucks now, and you are crap developers if you're just gonna steal off Rock Band's idea. F***ing Activision. I hate them. And about the periphal stuff, it was Activision's arrogance that comepletely screwed us over. And the new consoles coming in two and a half years, that's bull
I could care less who makes the other instruments, but I refuse to play that broken piece of crap guitar that comes with Rock Band. Everyboy that I know has had their strummer stop working in the down position and you have to push it up to use it.
New consoles in 2010?Yeah,right!!!
