June’s Game of the Month seemed like an easy decision for any PlayStation 3 console owner and we’re more than sure the same will go for all gaming media alike. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was unanimously chosen despite going up against stiff competition such as GRID and The Bourne Conspiracy. Much like Karl Malone and Patrick Ewing, GRID and other titles released in June unfortunately were released during the same time as the Michael Jordan (MGS4) of gaming hit the streets. This resulted in a handful of titles truly standing no chance against the best this generation has had to offer thus far.
Hideo Kojima has unarguably left his mark on the gaming industry as Guns of the Patriots was nothing short of a masterpiece. The title, which brought an end to the epic saga of Solid Snake, has also displayed the true potential of what next generation gaming has to offer. With incredible graphics that wholly immersed you within the surrounding atmosphere and a story that pulled you into the dramatic future of a world driven by the war economy, Metal Gear Solid 4 pulled no punches when it came to offering everything fans of the series had dreamed, waited and hoped for.
Personally, this was the first title in the series that I had played and I was deeply impressed. I had watched the entire Vol.2 DVD to make sure I had some idea what was going on and then I jumped into it. After getting through this unbelievable game, I found myself purchasing the Essential Collection just so I could enjoy the full-rounded experience. I have a feeling this game will leave a lasting impression in my gaming career that I soon won’t forget. They say the best games can stand the test of time and I feel that this holds true with Metal Gear Solid 4. Whether it is ten months or ten years from now, this game will still be one of the definitive titles of this generation as a whole.
Now that I got my opinion out of the way in regards to Metal Gear Solid 4, we’ll hear what the community had to say about their choice for Game of the Month.
“The 'last' stage in a brilliantly epic franchise as the story is the best to come from a game. Metal Gear Solid 4 wraps all of the important loose ends up in an amazing cinematic-oriented game that is complimented by possibly the best gameplay experience to date.
The graphics are arguably the best to date with no noticeable low resolution textures and the gameplay to cinematic sequences move seamlessly because of it all being on the in-game engine.
The usual 'Kojima Easter Eggs' are back and better than ever. The weapon choice and customization is abundantly varied with unlockables that make this story driven game highly replayable.

“It's the best game I've played this gen (and there are some strong contenders for that spot I can tell you). It's not perfect though. I was slightly disappointed in the textures at times - especially the ground ones given I spent so much time with my face in the dirt.
I thought the story line and cut scenes were the best I've ever experienced in a game although I did feel the end scenes were too drawn out and a bit too happy-happy.
I had a couple of other really minor niggles. I'd have liked to have had my iPod playing even when it wasn't equipped in my item slot. And I wish I could have jumped a little or/and ran a tad faster but then again, it is a tactical stealth game and that's probably just me.
The technical crowning moments of glory for this game though has to be its audio and the character animations. Nothing has come close to it this generation!” – Sparc
Overall, gamers have been blessed with an exceptional title that not only critics, but all gamers have deemed one of the greatest of all time. This fully brings the month of June to a close on the gaming front. Wth the monthly recap already up and our Game of the Month covered here, we look ahead to July and what E3 and the games to be released shall bring.

i wont disagree with this, by far game of the month and contender for game of the year.
I Couldn't agree more. This was the first game in a long time that, after finishing it, I wanted to (and I did) play through it again immediately after. A one of a kind gaming experience and the new action, graphics and audio benchmark for all future games in my opinion. Game of the month / Game of the year.

I bought the game on launch day, but I've hardley played it, first in the series for me but I really don't think it's my cup of tea, it's awesome I love the cut-scenes and everything but even though I stay stealthy I get spotted and they send in reinforcments. I just keep getting stuck and end up wasting an hour or so each time on one little bit. There needs to be more save checkpoints imho. I'm almost tempted to sell it, the online portion is keeping me going so far..
Bucko, you can save the game at any point in time from the pause menu dude. You don't need to hit a checkpoint.
MGS4 is the only true contender so far of course that is. GTA doesn't hold a butter knive to MGS4. Tha tsiad, all the places that gave GTAIV a 10 HAVE to put it as a nominee now.

This wins my "BEST GAME EVER" award. Everything was top tier to the point of extreme. Everything from the audio to the story to the graphics were incredible.
I'm not a mgs fanboy either, as this is the first one I've ever played. There was a slight learning curve for me at first, but after a while, I learned all the small things that make or break sneaking around and it got real fun, real quick!

The end of the game reminds me of the excitation I felt when I listen to the end of the Matrix, plus it matches in visual!
Hmm... I wonder what game will get the title next month. MGS4 deserved GotM, and it might even get GotY.
yeah def. a GOTY contender...but can a ps3 exclusive hold its own against multiplatformer games and all the ps3 "haters" out there
This game is the GAME OF THE YEAR for me, no matter what anyone thinks, theres no game that comes close to this game, every moment i was amazed. The game is EPIC beyond anything ever created, and i doubt ill ever play another game that will bring out so many different emotions in me ever again. I salute Hideo Kojima for creating this game, and i salute Konami for having this game stay PS3 exclusive. Ever since i beat MGS4, i have never felt the same.

i really dont know bout gta4 yet, havent played it, thats the problem though but I played MGS4 a hel of a lot. even though it was a bit bashed up in reviews i think that another good game (maybe contender for next month's game of the month) would be Battlefied BC, have any of you played this game yet, its actually pretty kick ass

about weapon custimization, i annoys me how there are so few things that will take a silencer, which is always vital in MGS games. so i always wind up using the M4. i wanna switch to the scar or G3, just something else.

I have played every Metal Gear Game, and MGS4 just blew me away. Not only it was a great game but it felt like I was in a movie also. Great Graphics. Best cut scenes in a game, better than Heavenly Sword and Thats a feat in it self. I just hope that when they make the movie They will not F@#* it up.

I can and will disagree with you, A masterpiece is something that is perfect. This game is far from perfect. Unless you are a diehard MGS fan this game is average at best. Game was way short, the A.I. is awful, there is some bug and graphic glitche's and hiccup's why does it drop frame's bad in cutscene's? And why can i just run through the whole level straight out in the open to the next checkpoint or lvl? I have handed this game to numerous people that never have played a MGS game and it did not keep them interested.
I thought it reverted back to the previouse cut scene if you save it your self I'm sure thats what it did to me. And don't you lose all the stuff you picked up to, Dave?
Well first off it can't be game of the year when the year isn't even close to being over mind you. That being said this one of the best games coming out of the PS3 camp in a good while.
