Few video games have ever been as mainstream as Guitar Hero. If there's one aspect that your father's business partner and your cousin's girlfriend have in common, it's that both have likely played the now-famous music franchise. With the recently revealed Guitar Hero World Tour set to debut later this year, the series can only become more and more approachable, right?
Wrong, at least if Gamestop's posted prices are anything to go by. The retailer has listed the "Guitar Hero World Tour - Band Kit" as $189.99 for PS3 and $179.99 for PS2 (USD). The bundle will presumably come with the game as well as the guitar, drum set and microphone peripherals.
Once again, if these prices are indeed accurate, the game will be $20 more expensive than the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle. Then again, World Tour's drums have been confirmed as wireless, whereas the Rock Band set had a pesky cord. Additionally, if you're only seeking killer guitar riffs, the "Guitar Hero World Tour - Guitar Kit" is listed at a slightly more reasonable $99.99 (for both platforms).
Finally, keep in mind that these prices aren't official. Gamestop often receives pricing information in advance, but they also occasionally place estimates on the cost of certain games in order to put it up on their site for pre-order. We'll keep you updated if Activision or RedOctane's official pricing scheme is any different from the one mentioned above.

WOW!!!!!!!!!
krazy
as long as the guitar from gh3 still works with it ill just be buyin the copy of the game, and maybe the mic a little while later
Tbh, im not too keen on the rock band guitars theyre far to flimsy, and it didnt think they could get worse than GH, so ill more than likely get GHRT, considering RB dnt come out till august(if im right) in EU anywho!
PSN - Kojak316
US citizens - count yourselves lucky! Rock Band will be going on sale in the UK for £180, which is practicaly double the price you pay.
Fortunately for me, I've no interest in these games whatsoever, and so can keep my money for other, better titles.
they better release all the periferals at the same time (ie just the drums, just the quitar) and not make everyone wait for six months after the game is out to buy the instruments by themselves. Any word on Rock Band 2????
WIRELESS DRUMS!
thank jesus. that wire gets so annoying,
still think ill get it cos u cant get rock band ovr here !!!! saw it (rock bnd) in france a few days ago 4 the xbox and saw it cost 180 euros :O
first rock band i cannt pay for mabye GH will be cheaper
This is why I dont like guitar hero or rock band .Too much money
atleast RB guitars have a much better scale compared to the dinky plastic toy look of GH guitars. Still it's NOT GUITAR Hero if you;re singing or banging away on drums, the title is stupid now. I bet it still even has ugly character models and weak visual presentation.
what im wondering is if they will sell the game by itself and let you buy the drums and mic seperately so you can buy them later if you want.
They should have sticked with guitars only, they have lost my business.
i hope they come out with a drum kit cuz ill just use my GH3 guitar
Lame. I'd get this if it wasn't for the ridiculous price.
Hmmm... a better drum kit. And only $20 more than RB... I will be pre-ordering if the rumours are true. I have RB but will switch over if the drums are better quality.
I actually hope that they do not make GTWT compatible with the older GH guitars. The reason is that we will be stuck with older guitars and GH will never be able to improve their product to make it more real guitar like with each revision. I play a real guitar and realize that GH is nothing like a real guitar but it doesn't mean that they should not try to make it more realistic.
I hope that eventually GH becomes more like the upcoming PC title called GuitarWizard as far as being able to use a real guitar. It would be much easier to dedicate time on GH if the practice actually helped in any way with a real guitar. I never want to go to expert mode right now with GH and RB though because I would rather spend my time on the real guitar.
To Alpha2,
I must agree. First, it is Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock with a phony Jimmy Hendrix character, but no Hendrix songs, putting in Tenacious D instead(decent song, just doesn't belong in a game entitled Legends of Rock)
Now it's Guitar Hero: World Tour. Okay, you would expect bands from all over the world or famous guitarist from all over the world. So, I'm thinking some British guitarist or bands heavy on the guitar sound(Motorhead), perhaps some German stuff. No, the game is once again way off from the title. Why is it still called Guitar Hero if it now has the mic and the drums? Don't they understand that some people just want the bleepin guitar. The problem with GHIII, though still an enjoyable game, was the song selection. I don't care if Alice and Chains and Motorhead have been in previous games. Last I checked they had more than one big hit. They will be fine if the selection of music improves and they pump out more downloadable songs THAT WOULD ACTUALLY LIVE UP TO THE NAME GUITAR HERO. And put better songs in the game to begin with. Not some "Hit Me With Your Best Shot". That song is incapable of being resurrected.
Do GH guitars work on RB yet? I refuse to buy those cheap pieces of crap guitars that come with RB, even though I don't own any of those kinds of games. Too many friends have had RB guitars fall apart and they can't be fixed for more than a few days. I just wish GH would stop making band-centered games (Aerosmith) and make more genre related games (classic rock, modern metal, 80's metal, etc.)
these prices have got nothing to with us i mean i america rockband cost 185 dollars so you would have pressumed it would have been around the hundred mark over here but no 159.99 so this will probably be alot when it comes out. i shld hav e got rockbad whilst out there cus everything is cheaper out the what with the terrible value of the dollar and all the reccesion over there.
wow if this is true, how stupid can Activision and Red Octane be!? It sgonna be released fall this year (supposedly) just after PS3 version of Rock Band EU (rip-off aswell) you would have thought that they would make cheaper so they could steal some the sales away from the release of rock band. The sad thing is i honestly dont think they will make it cheaper. :(
I hate when people complain about the song list on GHIII. That was great music there... the DLC coulda used improvement but that is abother story. I am going to buy the new GH because GH games own! even though they cost alot.
can i use my rock band's kit to play this game? if not, i won't buy this game
@ihsanqueen
you cannot. the GH4 drums have 3 drums, 2 cymbols, and a footpedal.
where as the rockband drums only have 4 drums and a footpedal.
so unless an attachment to the RB drums is available, you will not be able to.
Considering that the makers of GH 1, 2, and Rockband have made amazing products and also are constantly making available fresh new tracks, I will never buy any other product brand.
