HBO and New Line turn Blu

Posted on January 9th, 2008 at 15:43 EDT

It’s no surprise that after Warner Bros. announced their exclusivity, that other major companies would follow suit. So it’s no surprise to be able to announce that both HBO and New Line Home Entertainment have swung full force into supporting the Blu-ray format.

Both companies supported both formats prior to this announcement. New Line, however, was always a little late releasing their content to the HD DVD format, so it’s not so shocking to know that they’ve decided to just go to one side of the fence. HBO recently released the 6th season of the Sopranos on both formats, however, we think this may be one of the last titles released on HD DVD.

These two major companies are both heavy hitters in their respective entertainment fields. We can now look forward to watching the Lord Of The Rings, Rome, etcetera, exclusively on Blu-ray disc.

Ummm you already ran this fluffy Press Release. Can you get back to reporting on some games now.

"Have swung full force" - what does that mean?

Knock knock...anyone home upstairs?  New Line & HBO is just a business unit of Warner Bros so it's the same story but given at multiple angles to make the plebs think there are more studios rushing to Bluray... Please dont treat your readers as being that naive..

If you insist on reporting on Bluray then atleast try to look news worthy.

Sister company or not - it was Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros company that made the announcement - that means he spoke for the whole business that falls under WB control.

It's semantecs - but good journalism does not seek to misslead or leave room for deception by chance. We have just seen three or four PSU "stories" about Bluray that basicaly say nothing that has not been said before. This is flat out propaganda and is an insult to the readers.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of alternate "Playstation" sites to choose from so I'd like this one to atleast hire some proper editorial staff and attempt to lift themselves out of the gutter. If this site represents "Playstation" then they can lift their game.Right now - PSU looks mighty cheap.

@ The cleaner, I understan that any positive story seems to irk you on PSU but please do your research and at least make informed stealth trolls.

"

That's according to Warner Home Entertainment President Kevin Tsujihara, who said that the studio's announcement that it would drop HD DVD support does not extend to titles released by New Line, HBO or the BBC (which Warner distributes here in the US).

"They'll be making whatever decision they're going to make," said Tsujihara. "I assume they'll let people know very quickly, but they are not covered by this initial announcement.""

It was announced across various media outlets that the deal did not automatically spring for the sisters company. How you magically missed the news boogles the mind.

At this rate, HD-DVD may not make it to the summer. Enjoy it while you can. Before you know it, the format war will be over and there will be nothing left to talk about.

Can't wait to see HBO release some of their classic series and comedy specials. I think they might start the trend with releasing full on series on BD. ^_^  At least thats really being hopeful lol.
