Home Beta updated, Media and Events Space revealed

The Home Beta was recently updated to version 0.8.6. The update contained a Media and Events Space that was only available for a limited time.

Though nothing other than several stylish rooms were available to beta testers the day the area was open, we've heard that upon the launch of Home, Sony will use the space to showcase events such as PlayStation Day and host live presentations.

According to Scrawl, a survey coincided with the reveal of the Media and Events Space that inquired about the space's presentation area, media in the gallery, what kind of content you'd want to see to make your next visit more compelling and so on.

It's certainly a sound idea -- Home is the perfect area for community interaction. Perhaps a year from now we'll be reporting on a presentation given within Home. Until that day though, stay tuned to PSU for all things Home.

I'm in the beta and I find the new area pointless.

    • 11:25pm BST - May 24th, 2008

how is it pointless? they could hold pretty much e3 in there well just the sony booths heck they may even let you try out the demo's  its feasible.  its pointless to you right now because nothing is going on.  need this sucker to drop asap

Yeah but when there holding events were we want the information coming out of them that second there usefullness will be realized. I actually hoped for something like this inside of home so i couldnt be happier.

I don't like being Homeless.  I'm living out of my stolen GTA4 car with a bunch of strange looking Japanese cats.  The only free handouts I get from Sony nowadays are videos.   I've resorted to feeding off of stuff I find out in the woods in Oblivion.  If that wasn't bad enough, I played the Haze demo once the other day, wasn't really that impressed, but now I got this Nectar addiction.  I was really tripping heavily on that stuff yesterday.  I imagined I was walking on platforms and could walk to different levels just by looking at the platforms differently so they matched up and I wouldn't run into obstacles as long as I didn't see them.  My life is really a sad state of affairs :(

    • 12:11am BST - May 25th, 2008

I find it pointless because they should be working on stuff that people actually want. Stuff to do with game features and so on. I doubt very many will have an interest in this. This is why we have the net and PC.

i'm in the beta also and at the moment theres pretty much nothing to do in home even with the new area, they got to do the open beta so more people  are logged in home because every time i'm in home it's almost always empty

Events within home sounds like a good idea, it's actually something I was hoping that would happen. If the idea is implemented soundly enough, it might actually be something worthwhile. Maybe we can go to the theatre and watch press conferences live?

  11. Alpha2

    • 1:15am BST - May 25th, 2008

It's empty because people keep waiting for updates and it's taking for ever to get them. Seriously how long has it been since the last update and this one space is the only thing new? WHAT THE FAWK!? Yeah I'm happy to see there's still some development but we're NEVER going to see a public beta at this pace let along a full release, what the heck is going on over there!?

@ bracomadar: I like the homage to all the games.  What were the Japanese cats though?

    ---

At this point, I'm not caring about Home.  I'm psyched for it to release, but I try to keep myself from getting hopeful by the news on it.

Can't wait? Man, most of you people whine too much! If something doesn't come out on time, or needs to be pushed back for perfection, all you people complain like my WIFE! Stop being a bunch of PANSIES, and have patience for Sony. WHAT DO YOU WHINNERS WANT, ANOTHER XBLA??

@ The Game: The new areas are pointless now, but they will be bigger soon, when they start using them.

Actually, in a survey, this was one thing a lot of people wanted, myself included. I visited the space the other night, and I was impressed with the capabilities of what they'll be able to do with it.

@ InfernoReaper: Thanks, glad you liked it :)  The Japanese cat game you were wondering about is called Mainichi Issyo.  I downloaded the demo using a Japanese account.  It's probably the strangest thing I've ever tried to play.  Not really much to do and it's all in Japanese, so you don't really know what it tells you to do, but it's fun to show your freinds and see that WTF look on their faces :)

Ummmm, its not a game.  Its designed to be a unique online community area for PS3 owners.  However if its still dead to you since the last delay then thats your choice, I will still enjoy it when we do eventually see it.

In my opinion, Home isn't going to be a big deal until it has a public betas so we can all have our opinions heard. I also doubt any of us will be in Home, all that much anyways since we'd be gaming all the time, maybe talking for 15min at a time but other than that I wouldn't be in there, even if it was fully release.

@Chrisbosh...I've seen like a commercial for Haze everyday, sometimes on Spike and some other sports channel, forgot the network.

    @silent_assasin6:

You gotta think about it, this is "supposed" to rival Xbox Live. I'd rather them take there time and make it right than to release utter crap. Knowing some of the mistakes Sony has made, they may just take a while to release this and it's still not going to be up to par. I have all my finger and toes crossed for a sucessful launch.
