Over one million users in Japan have signed up for a PlayStation Network account since the service launched in November 2006, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has confirmed.

Earlier this month the platform holder also revealed that 3.2 million users had registered for the European PSN, and downloaded over 57 million pieces of content to date.

Worldwide, the service has attracted over eight million registered users.

Problem with registering outside your own 'domain' is that I cannot use my credit card on the store. So while I can download demos and videos I still can't access those games and addons that I really want. So I never actually use my other accounts.

Originally, we were allowed to make an Asian account and was able to add US money from a Visa (because they're international), but we couldn't add too much at a time due to security reasons. We had to add in increments of like $5 or something (i forget, it's been a while) until we had enough, then just purchase it. BUT NOW, they caught on to us, and they changed it...so we can no longer add US money to foreign accounts. SONY has/is releasing Playstation Store Cards that you can buy, and add funds to your account that way. So if PlayAsia sells them, get one and you'll be set.

30% of those accounts really could be by western users, I doubt there are many japanese users trying to get up in the UK and US stores since they've got all the coolest stuff. Supposedly there are already US PSN cards but the're almost nonexistant.

I'm sure a majority of them are people outside of Japan

You can't sign up for a Japanese account with US / Euorpean information and you have to use one of the prefecutres listed, and I'm not they don't monitor IPs

Note: If you plan to make an Asian account, use Hong Kong as the language, because all the writing is still in English although it uses the Japanese server. (if you choose Japan as the language, all the writing will be in Japanese)
