BioWare has stated that it expects the upcoming Mass Effect 2 to be exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for “at least a short period of time,” prompting speculation that the highly anticipated sequel may eventually be headed to the PlayStation 3.

Speaking to website CVG, Matt Atwood, Senior Manager for BioWare, commented, "I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time," adding, "We're still working out the details on that, but we've had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well."

Electronic Arts recently acquired BioWare in January 2008, igniting widespread belief that the remainder of the popular Science Fiction trilogy would be going multiplatform at some point in the near future.

Despite this, Microsoft told IGN “We have no announcements on future Mass Effect projects at this time."

"Additional inquiries may be sent to Electronic Arts," the company added.

Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

It's an EA game now so yes it will be multi plat and crappy

We gave them "Microsoft" Devil may cry franchise muti-plat. Therefore They should give us "Sony" Mass effect 2 or Mass effect 1 & 2 in a Bundle.

what's the point in playing the sequal if we don't get the first game?

    • 8:37am GMT - March 15th, 2008

Exactly, princevegeta19803. Thats why, if its a direct sequel, am not touching Saints Two 2. Even though, I rather get my GTA type fun from a GTA game.

Yeah they should just release part I and the sequel in bundles But not making it as expensive in cost due to the part I games are outdated.

    • 8:43am GMT - March 15th, 2008

Yeah a bundle would be great. There would have to be at least 50 hours of gameplay in that box then right...Awesome

Of course the PS3 will get Mass Effect, we're talking about EA here, the most money hungry and terrible game developers in the history of Gaming.

Well, I really don't care if the PS3 gets Mass Effect or not. What's the purpose of playing the second game when the first game hasn't come out yet for the PS3? Also, the PS3 is really the best console for releasing RPG's on anyways, the 360 is only good for sports games and shooters.

I think that Mass Effect 2 will be a Xbox 360 Exclusive probably. Microsoft might buy the rights to the Mass Effect franchise or something like that to ensure that it stays a 360 exclusive (If I was Microsoft that's what I would do). Mass Effect 2 sold pretty good on it's own, but it would sell even bettter if it was on the PS3. There is also a lot of rumors about Bioshock 2 coming to the PS3..... I guess the days of 3rd party exclusive titles are coming to an end. When it comes to PS3 exclusives , Sony can keep lots of 3rd party games exclusive because some games require the Blu-Ray capacity like Metal Gear Solid 4 and the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII and when a game gets to that level, that's when it won't go multiplatform. 3rd party Xbox 360 game titles are still on the DVD level and that means that they are ALL at risk to be developed for the PS3.

I'm just trying to think of what other Xbox 360 sequel could possible be comming the PS3, as per the rumors, aside from Dead Rising 2... Mass Effect might be it. Not Gears 2, not possible and certainly not Lost Planet colonies.

    • 12:16pm GMT - March 15th, 2008

here's the problem.... If its a port done by EA, then it should stay Microsoft exclusive... No one, at least the people I know wants another port from EA... Unless the PS3 is the lead platform and then port to 360, I don't even want to see it.... Other developers have stated that using the PS3 as the lead actually makes the 360 versions of games better than if the 360 was the lead platform...

those devs should feel ashamed...when ps3 came out they were all crying how impossible it was to develop on the ps3 now they want to do it?? i wish there was a thread were we could bash em and that they would be able to hear lol

but oh well its EA..i dont expect anything quality to come out from them on ps3 until they decide to quit their whining and actually focus on the ps3 like one should to get the best results

Dude. It's Electronic Arts now. Don't even f!%$ing bother. It's gonna be a multi-platform piece of crap with money in mind, not making a good game. When I first saw this though, I just laughed 'cause it's like the same thing with GoW 3. Now I don't even care because it's EA.

@Excelryu - I agree. They might be talking about PC. If not, then who cares. This wouldn't be coming out anytime soon, the first one looked bland. Again, by the time this comes out the PS3 is gonna have way too many games for us to care.

For one Devil may cry was never a sony exclusive

For two it would not make sense for two to be released and one not

MS owns the publishing rights to mass effect 1

Third know one really cares about MS exclusives execpt for Ninja Gaiden 2 or Killer Instinct 3

Saints Row 2, Condemned 2, Mass Efect 2(maybe). Are you guys finally starting to see a pattern now? That the PS3 has been getting mostly the sequels, but never the original. I'll continue to say: either bring me the first game in the series as well, or don't bother to waste my time. I won't buy an unreliable console just to catch up to what's going on in the sequel. I'm glad to see that at least a few have been paying attention to what I've been saying for the last few of months.

If they do bring Mass Effect 2 to the PS3 then I think they should port the first one over first, and please please don't let EA port it.. they will ruin it like they did with The Orange Box. Or bundle the first one with the second one for an ultimate bargain. Otherwise, im not getting the second one unless I see it cheap somewhere.

  35. chubacca

    • 7:00am GMT - March 16th, 2008

I'm gonna back Stovich up on this one as he has a very good point. There is no sense in buying part 2 if we dont get the first part of the story too.

It is really getting under my skin to see a lot of the good games go to Xbox 360 and taking so long to dribble its way down the sewer pipe to us - a year later. I think its about time devs started putting PS3 first for a while.

Awesome! Mass Effect was truly amazing. The replay value was huge with a storyline that adapted to the users choices. As long as they improve on the original and don't make dumb changes to the game play, it should rock! I agree with most of the forum. Don't release the sequel unless you plan on releasing the orginal.

i dont want that shi**y game. xbots can have that shi**y framerate for themselves... multiplat are always shi**y cus of they develop for the 360 and both versions need to be equal... lol, multiplat devs are digging their own grave when the ps3 exclusives comes out and their multiplat games look like n64 games compared to the ps3 exclusives =p
